In our feature, Catching Up With…, Sistahs on the Shelf is pleased to bring you updates on your favorite authors, ones who have new books or projects in the works.

Revisit with Skyy, whose latest novel, Consequences, has had women practically screaming for more of Denise, Lena, Carmen and especially Cooley.  Skyy is an captivating author, one who seems destined for even more success in years to come.

Let me just tell you – women have been desperately waiting for Consequences. Why was there such a delay between the two novels?
I know I really want to apologize about the delay.  The economy had a lot to do with the original push back.  Then when my publishers finally were ready to go to print the printer called the day it was supposed to hit the press and cancelled the order because of the books content.  They had to find another printer at the last minute but I think it was better because I love the way the book turned out.

Choices has been one of the most talked about novels on Sistahs on the Shelf. Why do you think that is?
Wow! I don’t know but I’m glad to hear it. I know most people who contact me state that the book is very real which is what I was setting out to do.  I guess people can relate to the characters and the wild things they go through.

What will women find in your newest novel, Consequences?
People will find that the characters have grown a lot in the course of a summer/year. They will see different sides to each character such as a lot more emotion from Cooley and even see different sides to sweet Denise and Nic.

It seems like the ending of Consequences lends itself to another story in the lives of Lena, Denise, Cooley and Carmen. What will happen next with our favorite lesbian college graduates?
Nothing, I’m not writing another book…lol just kidding.  Honestly I can’t say what will happen because I don’t know yet.  This may sound a little weird but I have to wait on the characters to come to me, it usually happens in a dream. When they start acting out their lives again in my head I’ll start typing it out.

In the downtime of between Choices and Consequences, what has been keeping you busy?
I am a club promoter for three of the largest GLBT clubs in Memphis so that takes up a lot of my time, but I love it.  Besides that I just try to enjoy life to its fullest in between promoting my events and of course promoting my book.  Looking forward to getting on the road and touring.

I heard your interview on The Michael Baisden Show a while ago, on the topic of women on the down low. Why do you think this has become such a popular trend?
I think it’s something that has been going on for a long time but is now being pushed in the forefront. Women want to feel true love and emotions and sometimes men just can’t seem to do that.  So they run across a “Nic” or a “Denise” that can give them the whole package and they are hooked.   I don’t think it’s right to be on the D.L.  I feel before you put yourself in that situation people need to think about what they truly want and go for it the right way. Nothing good comes out of lies and deceit.

How do you feel about your success and where do you see yourself going from here?
Things have been so wild.  I still find it hard to believe that I was on The Michael Baisden Show because that was one of the things that was on my top list of things I wanted to accomplish.  I am hoping that more books and better deals come my way. I want to take my characters from the pages to the television or movie screen.
